The National Intelligence Service(NIS) says North Korean leader Kim Jong-un might visit Russia.
Two senior lawmakers on the National Assembly’s Intelligence Committee, Lee Seong-kweun of the ruling People Power Party and Park Sun-won of the main opposition Democratic Party, said the NIS revealed the assessment Wednesday during a full session.
In making the assessment, the spy agency cited a meeting that North Korean foreign minister Choe Son-hui held with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on November 4.
The NIS said Choe and Putin probably discussed crucial, sensitive issues, adding that their meeting is unlikely to have been simply protocol.
The agency said it will closely monitor possible weapons, equipment and technology that North Korea could acquire from Russia.
The NIS added that it would be desirable for the war in Ukraine to end early amid fears that if it rages on, Russia, growing dependent and desperate, could transfer technologies that it shouldn’t to North Korea.
