Ways & Means Committee to Markup KORUS FTA Wed.

The U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means plans to convene a meeting on Wednesday, local time, to deliberate and vote on a bill seeking the ratification of the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.

Committee chairman Dave Camp said on Tuesday that he will hold a markup on the bills at the meeting so they can be considered by the full House as soon as possible. The bills also seek for the ratification of trade pacts with Colombia and Panama.

Wednesday is the fastest date the committee can deliberate on the bills in line with Congress’s rules on proceedings.

Camp’s remarks suggest that the House could pass the South Korea-U.S. trade agreement before President Lee Myung-bak and U.S. President Barack Obama hold a summit on Thursday next week.
