House Committee Passes KORUS FTA Bill

The U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means has approved a bill seeking the ratification of the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.

The bill on Wednesday was passed during the committee’s full session by a vote of 31 to five.

The committee also passed bills seeking the ratification of trade pacts with Colombia and Panama.

While some lawmakers expressed opposition to the U.S.-Colombia deal during Wednesday’s meeting, most legislators actively supported the South Korea-U.S. trade accord. They said the agreement is expected to lead to the creation of jobs.

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to handle the ratification bills as early as Tuesday during a plenary session, at least 48 hours after being cleared by the committee.
