2nd US-NK Talks Likely to Follow US-SK Summit

The United States is reportedly planning to hold its second round of talks with North Korea after the South Korea-U.S. summit scheduled for October 13th.

A South Korean official says that Seoul's new chief nuclear envoy Lim Sung-nam and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns discussed the schedule for the U.S.-North Korea talks during his recent visit to the U.S. They decided that the U.S.-North Korea meeting should be held this month and most likely in a third country.

Seoul and Washington agreed not to bring up the issue of resuming the six-way talks before North Korea confirms more definite and sincere steps toward denuclearization than what was presented during its nuclear talks with South Korea last month.

The South Korean official says that even if the North and the U.S. hold a second round of talks, it doesn't guarantee the six-way dialogue will immediately follow within the year.
