The University of Georgia in the southern United States will hold a forum next Monday on ways for the two Koreas and the U.S. to tackle Korean Peninsula issues on a nongovernmental level.
The university says that the "international Track II" private diplomacy seminar will be an informal, unofficial, off-the-record dialogue to resolve issues among the three countries.
The North’s delegation for the forum is likely to include seven or eight members and is expected to be headed by Rhee Jong-hyuk, vice chairman of the North’s Asia-Pacific Peace Committee.
South Korea will be represented by ruling Grand National Party Supreme Council member Rep. Won Hee-ryong, main opposition Democratic Party Supreme Council member Rep. Park Joo-sun, and Yonsei University Professor Moon Jung-in. Experts on Korean Peninsula affairs within U.S. Congress are expected to represent the U.S. at the forum.
The event is being organized by the university's Center for the Study of Global Issues. It will run through Thursday of next week.
