Japan Plans Early Partial Return of Royal Books

The Japanese government has informed South Korea of its intent to return some of the Korean royal books during the South Korea-Japan summit.

Although Japan has agreed to have the Joseon Wangsil Uigwe returned to Korea by December 10th as a gesture to improve ties, Japan said the early partial return is to symbolize goodwill and cooperation when Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda visits South Korea for summit scheduled to be held on the 19th in Seoul.

The Japanese government delivered this intent through Japanese envoy Shinsuke Sugiyama, who was in Korea on the twelfth, to his Korean counterpart. South Korea’s government is known to have responded that it would positively review the move.
