United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says the UN will continue to help North Korea in the wake of the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

Ban’s associate spokesman Farhan Haq said in a news briefing on Monday, local time, that the UN chief has reaffirmed his commitment to peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and he will closely follow the situation.

The UN chief has frequently expressed concerns about the deadlocked six-way negotiations. He said last week that the situation on the Korean Peninsula was practically frozen and not advancing.
