Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense has temporarily delayed its plan to conduct a regular military drill in the wake of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il’s death.

The Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense announced the delay in an official briefing on Wednesday following a meeting of senior commanders. Taiwan had planned to conduct a missile test and a shooting exercise near its outer islands.

The Ministry of National Defense said it made the decision to avoid unnecessary misunderstanding and military tension with neighboring countries in a critical time.
