NK Mission to UN Sets up Memorial Altar for Kim Jong-il

The North Korean mission to the UN in New York has set up a memorial altar for North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

The mission, which is located across the street from UN headquarters, began receiving mourners at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, local time. Deputy UN Secretary-General Asha Rose Migiro and Chinese Permanent Representative to the UN, Li Baodong, were among those who paid their respects to the North Korean leader at the altar.

A UN official said that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has no plan to pay a condolence visit to the mission.

The North Korean mission is planning to run the memorial altar until December 28th, which is the day of Kim’s funeral.
