US Travel Agent: No Change in Tour Programs to NK

The head of a U.S. travel agency says there will be no change in its operation of tours to North Korea despite the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

President of Chicago-based Asia Pacific Travel, Walter Keats, said more people will show interest in tours to North Korea as late North Korean founder Kim Il-sung’s 100th birthday is on April 15th next year. He expects North Korea to make use of the occasion as a good opportunity to attract more foreign tourists.

Keats said no one knows exactly what will happen inside North Korea, but there is no reason to consider rescheduling tours to the North now.

Known as a pro-North Korean businessman, Keats is the sole U.S. operator of tours to North Korea. With official permission from North Korean authorities, he has been bringing tourists to North Korea for 16 years.
