Chinese President Stresses Peace on Korean Peninsula

Chinese President Hu Jintao says it is in the common interests of all concerned nations to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula following the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

Hu made the remarks on Monday during summit talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The Chinese president said China will maintain close communication with China and other countries.

Hu also expressed hope that related countries remain calm and resume six-party nuclear talks in order to secure lasting stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Noda stressed the role of China, which has a significant influence on North Korea, and proposed Japan and China maintain close contact to exchange information and address the situation calmly and properly.
