Finnish Authorities Allow Boat to Sail but Without Missiles

Finnish authorities who seized 69 interceptor missiles and 160 tons of explosives on a British-registered cargo ship have allowed the boat to travel again but without the missiles.

The British-registered cargo ship, Thor Liberty, was detained by Finnish authorities while docked in Kotka, southern Finland last Thursday. The ship was on its way to Shanghai.

Shortly following the vessel’s detainment, the German government announced that the shipment of the missiles was a legitimate delivery from Germany to South Korea.

Markku Koskinen, the director of traffic operations at the port of Kotka, said the Thor Liberty will be allowed to sail but added customs is still holding the cargo and the ship’s crew isn't allowed to leave Finland. The ship's Ukrainian captain and first mate have been taken into custody on suspicion of violating weapons export laws.
