US Media Note Omission of Nukes in NK New Year's Editorial

U.S. news outlets report bilateral talks with North Korea could resume, noting that North Korea did not mention its nuclear weapons program in its New Year's editorial.

The Washington Post says North Korea strayed from its typical criticism of the U.S. in its New Year's editorial and did not mention its nuke program, an indication that Pyongyang may be open to further talks.

CNN also says the omission of the nuclear program in the New Year's editorial is because the U.S. is pressing the North to abandon its nukes in return for food aid.

The Associated Press also interpreted the message as North Korea's intent to continue talks with the U.S. in order to receive food assistance.
