Samsung Plans to Reenter Japanese TV Market in 2013

A leading Japanese daily says Samsung Electronics aims to reenter Japan’s TV market next year with a new lineup of flat screens.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun said Tuesday that the South Korean electronics giant sold LCD TVs in Japan in 2002 but withdrew from the market in 2007 after its market share reached only three-tenths of a percent due to a lack of brand power.

The paper said, however, Samsung plans to return to the market as its Galaxy smartphones have become popular in Japan since they went on sale through Japan’s NTT DoCoMo in 2010.
