Japan to Use Space Program for Military Purposes

A Japanese newspaper reports that the Japanese government will use its space program for military purposes.

The Sankei Shimbun said the Japanese government will revise legislation on the establishment of aerospace research institutes and delete a clause from the law limiting the nation’s space program to nonmilitary, peaceful purposes.

The revision will allow Japan to develop satellites for a more precise missile defense system, which will improve its capability to respond to China’s antisatellite missile program.
