China to Build Power Plants in Region Bordering N. Korea

Written: 2012-01-04 12:57:42Updated: 2012-01-04 14:13:41

China is apparently developing massive power plants in a city bordering North Korea.

Chinese sources say a 12-hundred-megawatt hydroelectric power plant will go into operation this year and two or three 32-hundred-megawatt thermal power plants will be built in Dandong, Liaoning Province.

Analysts say the power plants are for sending electricity to North Korea, which is expected to need a massive amount of power if it opens up and launches development projects.

China will also build 460 wind power generators near a river in Dandong to boost the amount of power generated by wind to 500 megawatts. And a four-thousand-megawatt nuclear power plant will also be built in the region.

Meanwhile, two two-thousand megawatt combined heat and power plants will be built starting this year in Qinshan, Zhejiang Province.
