EU Extends Restrictions on Japanese Food Imports

The European Union has extended restrictions on imports of Japanese food over concerns the food has been contaminated with radioactive substances.

Japanese media report that the European Commission has decided to keep regulations in place on imports of food and animal feed from Japan until the end of October.

The EU said the extension is to ensure food safety.

The EU designated eleven Japanese provinces and prefectures as areas that require tougher food screening procedures and certificates for passing radioactive tests.
