N. Korean Top Nuke Envoy Visits New York

North Korea’s top envoy to the six-party talks and vice minister of foreign affairs Ri Yong-ho are visiting New York to attend a seminar on Korean Peninsula issues.

South Korean chief nuclear negotiator Lim Sung-nam will attend the seminar at Syracuse University as well, raising expectations about an unofficial contact with his North Korean counterpart.

The North Korean top nuclear envoy is also scheduled to make an appearance at a meeting chaired by the National Committee on American Foreign Policy (NCAFP).

The meeting is expected to be attended by high-ranking U.S. officials including Special Representative for North Korea Policy, Glyn Davies. The two Koreas and the U.S. will discuss verifiable measures to denuclearize North Korea and the resumption of the six-party nuclear talks.

The meeting follows the third round of high-level U.S.-North Korea talks in Beijing in late February.
