UN: 'Global Population to Reach 9.3 Bln by 2050'

The United Nations (UN) projects that the world population will reach nine-point-three billion by 2050.

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs estimates the global population will expand by two-point-three billion by 2050, from a global population of 7 billion recorded in 2010.

The increase will be led by urban populations around the world, with Asia and Africa accounting for 86 percent of the growth.

The UN says the growth in urban areas will lead to continued difficulties in providing jobs, housing and energy for those populations.
