U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the U.S. has taken all necessary measures to prepare for emergencies that might result from a possible third nuclear test by North Korea.

The U.S. defense chief made the remarks in a news briefing on Monday, saying he hopes the North would not commit further provocations.

He said the U.S. had maintained close contact with allies like South Korea and Japan to monitor North Korea’s failed missile launch.

Panetta stressed that the U.S. will be perfectly prepared against further provocations from North Korea.
