Nuke Envoy : Feb. 29th Agreement is Scrapped

South Korea’s chief nuclear envoy Lim Sung-nam says there is no need to speak further about an agreement the U.S. and North Korea reached in February because of the North's provocative rocket launch last week.

Lim made the statement to reporters after holding talks with U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy Glyn Davies at the State Department in Washington on Tuesday.

His remarks suggest South Korea and the U.S. have decided to scrap the agreement reached between the U.S. and North Korea on February 29th after the North violated the agreement by launching a long-range rocket.

Under the deal, the North agreed to suspend nuclear tests and missile launches. In return, the U.S. had promised to provide nutritional assistance.

Lim said during Tuesday’s talks, South Korea and the U.S. agreed to work closely for the smooth implementation of a UN Security Council presidential statement condemning the North’s rocket launch.
