Japanese Opposition Leader Cancels Trip to China over Father's Remarks

The secretary-general of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and eldest son of Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara has canceled an official visit to China apparently due to his father's remarks earlier this week.

Japanese media reported that Secretary-General Nobuteru Ishihara canceled his trip scheduled for Friday through Monday after China became enraged about his father's plan to purchase the disputed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea.

A series of messages have been posted on Chinese websites opposing the secretary-general's visit to China, and Shanghai University has already canceled his plan to deliver a speech.

Meanwhile, Governor Ishihara wrapped up his visit to the U.S. on Thursday, and pledged to purchase of the Senkaku Islands by April of next year.
