The Dokdo Network of South Korea held a demonstration in the Trocadero Square near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France to urge the International Hydrographic Organization to recommend using the term East Sea, instead of the Sea of Japan.

The Dokdo Network demonstration comes just days before the IHO will hold a meeting in Monaco on April 23rd.

The group has demanded all public offices and publication companies use the term East Sea on maps to describe the body of water off the eastern coast of the Korean Peninsula. The group has also urged the U.S. State Department and U.K. Foreign Ministry to withdraw their uses of the Sea of Japan.

Officials from the group, as well as a group of professors for the cause, will visit Monaco on April 21st and continue their demonstration throughout the organization’s convention.
