Nonimmigration Visitors to US 1.5 Mln in 2011

A new report finds that around one-and-a-half million South Koreans visited the United States for nonimmigration purposes last year.

According to the report released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday, some 53 million foreigners were allowed to enter the U.S. for nonimmigration purposes in 2011.

Mexicans made up the bulk of foreigners entering the U.S. at 17 million. The British followed and the Japanese pulled up in third. South Koreans took up the eighth largest portion.

Seventy-six percent of the nonimmigrating visitors were in the U.S. for tourism, eleven percent for business, some six percent to meet relatives and roughly three percent to study.
