US Trade Deficit with S. Korea Expanding

A new report finds that the U.S. trade deficit with South Korea has continued to grow since the conclusion of the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.

According to the report issued by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the deficit reached two billion dollars in May, up 13 percent from April and up 53-and-a-half percent from the same period last year.

The trade gap grew after prices of U.S. items exported to South Korea fell six-point-four percent while prices of goods imported from South Korea stood at similar levels from April.

Among the U.S.’ major trading partners, South Korea ranked eighth in terms of posting trade surplus.
