Korean Community Distressed over Georgia's Pending Immigration Law

Many Koreans are wary in Georgia as the southern U.S. state aims to stregthen crackdowns on illegal aliens.

The state’s Justice Department requested the U.S. Court of Appeals last Friday to immediately enforce an immigration law that would enable police to verify the immigration status of suspected illegal immigrants without a warrant.

The Korean community in the southern state is concerned that once the law is enforced, a large number of Koreans will be affected in addition to Hispanics.

Currently, some 100-thousand Koreans are estimated to be living in Atlanta, and 30 percent of them are reportedly illegal immigrants whose long-term visas have expired or been canceled.
