Landmark Talks Reopen Myanmar for U.S. Investment

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Myanmar President Thein Sein in a landmark round of talks on Friday, along with American business representatives.

Clinton lauded the Myanmar government’s efforts to steer towards democratization and declared that the U.S. would reopen investment there, after easing sanctions on the country.

Sein has worked towards bringing democracy to Myanmar after allowing Aung San Suu Kyi to continue political activities, and also said it would take another look at its relationship with North Korea. The president has said Myanmar has no military cooperation with North Korea.

At the landmark talks, representatives from Coca Cola, Ford and Goldman Sachs were present in terms of opening the gates to investment in Myanmar.
