UN Chief to Discuss Syria with Chinese Leaders

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit Beijing to attend this year’s China-Africa Summit.

A UN official said that the bloody confrontation between government forces and antigovernment rebels in Syria will top the agenda for the meeting of the UN chief and Chinese leaders. Ban will meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao and other high-ranking Chinese officials during his stay in the Chinese capital.

Meanwhile, former UN Secretary-General and special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan will visit Moscow for two days from Monday to discuss the Syrian issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A public relations office at the Kremlin said the Russian president will reaffirm his support for Annan’s proposal to end the Syrian bloodshed through political and diplomatic efforts.
