At least 50 Dead Due to Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy is estimated to have claimed at least 50 lives along the U.S. East Coast.

The death toll is expected to rise as the hurricane has left a path of destruction.

New York and New Jersey were hit the hardest and have been declared major disaster areas. Some six-point-six million households in the two states are still without power.

U.S. media said the latest hurricane wreaked more havoc than Hurricane Irene, which smashed into the East Coast a year ago. Reports also said it will take weeks for electricity to be restored and public transportation to normalize in affected areas.

Things seem to be getting back to normal in Washington, but concerns are still looming as the water level of the Potomac River is again rising.
