The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that a preparatory meeting for the 2015 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review drafted a chairman’s factual summary calling for North Korea to refrain from further provocations.
Nations that participated in the talks, which were held from April 22 to May 3, said in the summary that North Korea must refrain from further provocations, such as a nuclear test, that can trigger security concerns in the region.
The summary also denounced North Korea’s nuclear test in February, expressed concerns about North Korea’s nuclear program including uranium enrichment, called for North Korea to refrain from restarting its nuclear facilities in Yongbyon, and said North Korea will not gain status as a nuclear power.
Nations in the NPT called for North Korea to meet the promises made through the six-party talks, as well as the September 19 joint statement, demanding that the country rejoin the NPT and abide by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguard agreements.
The summary also called for North Korea’s full compliance with conditions called by UN Security Council resolutions.
