US Media: Summit to Bolster Alliance, Seek Dialogue with N. Korea

U.S. media predict that President Park Geun-hye and President Barack Obama aim to bolster their bilateral alliance and shift the North Korea approach toward dialogue during this week's summit.

The Wall Street Journal reported Park's decision to make the U.S. her first overseas visit since taking office, just as her predecessors did, is to strengthen the alliance. The daily also said one of the top priorities of the two sides is how to induce a change in North Korea's behavior through dialogue.

USA Today reported that "North Korea's war-hungry rhetoric will dominate discussions" at the South Korea-U.S. summit in Washington on Tuesday, local time.

The paper cited analysts saying the summit will "reinforce the countries' commitment to their alliance but also offer opportunities to discuss conditional dialogue with North Korea."
