US Lawmakers Submit Resolution on S. Korea-US Alliance

U.S. lawmakers have submitted a resolution to Congress to mark President Park Geun-hye's first visit to the U.S. since taking office and the 60th anniversary of the South Korea-U.S. alliance.

A congressional source says Congresswoman Grace Meng and Congressman Mike Kelly referred the resolution reaffirming the two countries' alliance to the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday, local time.

The resolution states that the House of Representatives affirms the U.S. public's unwavering support for the defense of South Korea through the two nations' Mutual Defense Treaty and other measures to deter North Korean provocations.

On Wednesday, local time, the South Korean president will speak before a joint session of the U.S. Congress.
