The Union of South American Nations is stepping up cooperation among member countries in the defense sector.

Latin American media report that the union decided to establish a South American security center in a defense meeting held in Ecuador’s capital city, Quito.

The center will be tasked with seeking concrete cooperative measures to establish peace and stability in the region.

The decision will be officially announced in an upcoming meeting of defense ministers of South American countries, which will be held in the Peruvian capital of Lima.

The union is comprised of 12 South American nations, including Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil.
