U.S. President Barack Obama has congratulated the Pakistani government on the results of Saturday’s general elections.

Obama said that his administration is looking forward to cooperating with the new Pakistani government as equal partners.

He went on to say that the Saturday’s general elections generated a peaceful, transparent transition of power in Pakistan, hoping that Washington will continue to cooperate with Islamabad.

Pakistan has achieved a democratic power transition for the first time in its history, as former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League Party claimed victory in the general elections on Saturday.
