S.Korean Reggae Singer 10th on Billboard Charts
South Korean reggae singer Skull (formerly of the duo Stony Skunks) has found success in the US market.

Skull’s US debut single “Boom Di Boom Di” placed 16th on Billboards R&B/Hip-Hop Sales Charts on the 28th of July, climbing up 6 spots to 10th place on the same chart this week. He also debuted 31st on the Hot Singles Sales Charts.

Skull’s agency YG Entertainment said that the singer’s recent success is a pleasant surprise. Skull entered the US underground scene over a year ago and has been steadily gaining a fan base through Myspace, underground performances and College radio and Jamaica’s Irie FM.

“Boom Di Boom Di,” which was originally featured on Stony Skunk’s 2nd album, was translated into English and remixed. It also features reggae heavy-weight Mighty Mystic.

Skull is managed by top singer Mariah Carey’s brother, Morgan Carey. Expectations are high that Skull will participate in Mariah Carey’s upcoming new album.
Kim Bum-Soo was the first Korean singer to crack the Billboard charts back in 2001 with “Hello Goodbye Hello.” YG Entertainment says that Skull’s recent success gives new hope to other Korean artists attempting to break into the tough US music market.
