President Park Geun-hye on Friday emphasized the need to resolve North Korea's nuclear issue with urgency, likening the threat to a "dagger to our throats."
During a luncheon with senior officials of U.S. Forces Korea(USFK) at her office, the president stressed that North Korea has warned of additional provocations and there's no knowing when or in what way the regime may provoke yet again.
Park said the most effective means to restrain what she called the North's "lunacy" is maintaining the joint defense posture with the U.S. based on the bilateral alliance.
USFK commander General Vincent Brooks said during the meeting that the two nations' alliance is "unshakable" and "stronger than ever."
The Friday meeting marked the first time President Park invited USFK generals to the top office for a luncheon. Some 30 people attended including Brooks, Defense Minister Han Min-koo, the chairman of Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff and chiefs of staff of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
