New data finds that it would cost a record 331-thousand-500 or around 238 U.S. dollars for a four-member household to make kimchi this year.

Market researcher, Korea Price Information, on Monday, released the figure which is up more than ten percent from last year’s kimjang or kimchi-making season. 

The price of 20 napa cabbages, the key ingredient of kimchi, surged 25 percent on-year to 100-thousand won, or nearly 72 dollars, as of last Friday while the price of ten radishes doubled to 30-thousand won, or roughly 21 dollars.

Compared to last season, the price of key ingredients all saw an increase, except for green onions. 

An official of the agriculture ministry said the price of napa cabbages have begun going down with more regions shipping out additional volumes of such cabbages.
