President Lee Jae Myung advocated for the "responsible use" of artificial intelligence(AI) during a United Nations Security Council session on Wednesday.

The president presided over an open debate at the United Nations related to AI and international peace and security.

Lee emphasized that responsible AI will play a pivotal role in turning the challenges of the AI era into opportunities, fostering global cooperation and ensuring that such technology is used to promote peace and security.

Lee stressed the need for a common set of norms and encouraged governments, academic institutions, industries and civil societies to unite to use AI for the benefit of humanity.

He added that without responsible, human-centric innovation, AI could become a threat to humanity, risking consequences including disinformation, cyberattacks and global inequality.
