Police have launched an investigation into the fire at the National Information Resources Service data center, which caused a nationwide disruption of government network services.

On Sunday morning, police and fire authorities, along with the National Forensic Service, began a joint on-site inspection of the facility in Daejeon to determine the cause of the blaze.

The inspection is focused on the server room, where all burned lithium-ion batteries have been removed.

During the initial inspection on Saturday, police secured approximately 840 lithium-ion batteries, which have been submerged in water at an outdoor facility to prevent further ignition.

Once the batteries are stabilized and deemed safe, they will be transferred to the National Forensic Service for detailed analysis.

The Daejeon police have assembled a 20-member team to lead the investigation.
