US to Halt Oil Aid until NK Agrees to Verification

Due to members of the latest round of the six-party nuclear talks failing to reach an agreement Thursday, the U.S. says it will stop providing heavy fuel oil aid to North Korea.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told a briefing that Washington will suspend the aid until Pyongyang agrees to nuclear verification protocol.

He said that "future fuel shipments are not going to move forward absent a verification regime" and that "there's understanding among all the parties except for North Korea that fuel oil shipments will not go forward absent progress."

Thursday, when the nuclear talks ended without results, the U.S. said it would review its approach to North Korea's nuclear abandonment.
