The lower house of the German parliament, Bundestag, has resolved to promote cooperation with North Korea on the premise that the North Korean nuclear issue is resolved.
Marking the 125th year of forming diplomatic ties between Germany and Korea, five political parties jointly motioned and unilaterally approved the resolution for dynamic and continuous development of bilateral relations with Korea.
The resolution pointed out that the goal of Korean unification is still far off and that human rights conditions in the North are of serious concern as the nuclear issue casts a shadow over the Korean Peninsula and the Northeast Asian region.
The Bundestag adopted another Korea-related resolution in July 2001, a year after the historic inter-Korean summit, and again in January 2004 in celebration of the 120th anniversary of forming diplomatic ties.
