The U.S. will continue to offer food aid to North Korea despite the stalled six-way nuclear talks.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said that the U.S. will deliver another 21-thousand tons of food to the North soon, adding that Washington will continue with its provision of food aid to Pyongyang in the future based on humanitarian ideals.

He said that a U.S. fact-finding team visited the North to ensure that North Korean authorities have distributed recent shipments of food appropriately.

Turning to South Korea, the department spokesman denied that Washington asked Seoul to dispatch troops to Afghanistan.

He did, however, stress the need for international assistance in Afghanistan and Iraq to secure stability and newly established democratic systems.
