As the Israeli and Hamas conflict escalates into an all-out war situation, the United States is saying Hamas should be the first to agree not to partake in any further violence.

White House deputy press secretary Gordon Johndroe blasted Hamas for refusing to adhere to the cease-fire and for its rocket and mortar attacks on Israel.

He said that Hamas has once again shown its true colors as a terrorist organization.

But he did not condemn Israel's attacks, saying the U.S. understands that Israel needs to take actions to defend itself.

He said Washington’s stance is that Hamas must agree to a sustainable cease-fire.
