US to Accept Families of NK Refugees

The U.S. government has decided to accept into the country family members of North Korean defectors who have already settled in the U.S.

According to the U.S. government’s refugee acceptance plans for the year, the U.S. plans to admit up to 80-thousand refugees from around the world in 2009; 17-thousand from Myanmar and 19-thousand from East Asia, including North Korea.

According to a civic group supporting North Korean refugees, Washington has admitted a total of 75 North Korean escapees since May 2006.
