Grace Pak has earned the honor of being the first baby born in New York City in 2009, the first ethnic Korean to do so.

In Queens, the 39-year old Sun Young Lee gave birth to her daughter at seven minutes past midnight.

Every year, New York City recognizes the new year’s first baby by presenting them with gifts and a scholarship.
