Lee, Hu : NK's Rocket Launch Negative to Peace

President Lee Myung-bak and Chinese President Hu Jintao have agreed that North Korea's planned rocket launch is detrimental to peace and stability in Northeast Asia.

Lee met with the Chinese president on the sideline of the Group of 20 Summit in London on Friday.

Lee stressed that if Pyongyang carries out the launch, it will be in clear violation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1718. He also asked for China's help in seeking sanctions at the U.N. Security Council.

But the Chinese leader was negative about Security Council sanctions if the North puts a satellite into orbit as it claims.

On the denuclearization of the North, the two leaders agreed to work closely together to acheive a verifiable and complete dismantlement of the North's nuclear programs through the six-party talks.
