U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says she will meet with the foreign ministers of South Korea and Japan next week to discuss ways to avoid war as well as to restrain North Korea.
According to a transcript released by the State Department on Thursday, Clinton said in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Republic, that the U.S. will also work with its partners to try to convince the North to give up its nuclear weapons.
She added that the U.S. will try to show Pyongyang that there is another way of running a country than what it is doing, which is currently to the benefit of a very few people, namely the rulers.
Clinton said she will return to the United States over the weekend, and on Monday will hold a meeting with the foreign ministers from South Korea and Japan to discuss how they can work together to try to avoid conflict. She said she had already spoken to high-ranking Chinese and Russian officials on the matter.
