US Experts: Focus Should be on Potential of FTA

U.S. experts say that discussions on the results of additional free trade agreement (FTA) talks between South Korea and the U.S. should be focused on how much the two economies can grow through the deal.

Former economic advisor during the Nixon administration and current California State University professor Sohn Sung-won says that despite criticism in Seoul that Korea yielded too much to the U.S. in terms of automobiles, the FTA is one of the best ways for Korea to continuously increase exports amid the global economic recession.

Troy Stangarone at the Korea Economic Institute in Washington says that the U.S. auto sector strongly supports the outcome of the additional FTA negotiations and that the Korea FTA is very likely to be approved by Congress.
