The U.S. is expected to make a big trade push in the Asia-Pacific region next year with a free trade agreement with South Korea.

Kurt Tong, U.S. Ambassador-designate to APEC, told Reuters that in 2011, the U.S. will seek to have the Korea-U.S. FTA ratified and implemented and is also hoping for significant progress on the Transpacific Partnership and concrete outcomes on trade and investment issues through relations with APEC.

He expected the U.S. to pursue stronger economic relations with the Asia-Pacific region in order to create more jobs and boost consumption in the U.S.

The U.S. hosts the APEC forum in Honolulu in November next year.
