Top US Congressman Urges for Ratification of FTAs

U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady says Republican members of the House of Representatives are seeking to have the free trade agreements (FTA) with South Korea, Colombia and Panama passed in the first six months of next year.

Reuters quoted Brady as saying in a speech at the Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday that the trade agreements have languished for too long under House Democratic leadership.

Brady, who will become chairman of the House Ways and Means trade subcommittee in January, added that there's no better way to show the rest of the world that America is serious about trade engagement than moving on the FTAs.

He urged President Barack Obama to start the process by sending all three pacts to Congress for a vote early next year.
